Lights! Canberra! Action! 20232023 Top Twelve Gala Screening and Awards
Friday 10th March 2023, 7 for 8pm start. More family friendly films in the first half. More mature content after Intermission. Our 20th festival! We are so proud to have made it to this milestone - 20 festivals, 240 Top Twelve films, and about 700 teams of filmmakers! This year also coincides with the World Pride festival, so this year's theme is: Pride You can interpret this theme any way you like. It's up to you, the filmmakers, to let this theme roll around in your heads and create a masterpiece.

Filmmaker Bio: My name’s Sam Hosking and I’m a filmmaker from Canberra. I love making short films of all different genres, especially horror! I love all aspects of making films.

Filmmaker Bio: Lyndsey Turnbull and Anthea Staats are recent film production graduates from the University of Canberra. Throughout their studies they have made several short films together, including their previous LCA submission 'Fool’s Gold’ (Best Student Film & Female Filmmaker 2021) and their final university project ‘Lost and Found’ (Best Director & Best Editor, UC Film Awards 2020). As graduates Lyndsey and Anthea plan to make more films, building their skills and meeting new people along the way.

Filmmaker Bio: Marko has had a passion for creating 3D art and animation, and this year was able to team up with a follow 3D artist based in Perth - Felicia White - and the two were able to create a fully animated short film in the span of 8 days.

Filmmaker Bio: Alistair has previously filled Sound-based roles in his past Lights! Canberra! Action! exploits, but this time is taking the helm of writer and director for his first film. He looks forward to LCA every year and thinks it does a great job of bringing the Canberra filmmaking scene together for two weeks of fun-fuelled filmmaking.

Filmmaker Bio: Trent Houssenloge is a driven filmmaker and videographer by day (and also by night). This year, his film perfectly mirrors itself at the midpoint. The cinematography, blocking, action and score are all reflected surrounding a single shot in the middle of the film. Did you notice? Trent can't wait for next year's LCA, as he's already got grand plans.

Filmmaker Bio: Matthew J. Thompson, Zane Menegazzo, Rieley James & Joachim Ellenrieder are a team of Canberran filmmakers. Matthew has a love for scriptwriting, directing & editing. Zane and Rieley are passionate actors, both with backgrounds in film and theatre, and are taking on the two lead roles in the film. Joachim is a talented cinematographer, elevating the vision for the film. As well as taking on these roles in the film, they have worked together to produce this passion project and are extremely proud to present Where Credit’s Due to Lights! Canberra! Action! 2022.
A CREATURE LIKE ME Psychological Horror, 7 mins, PG (horror, adult themes)

Filmmaker Bio: Dan Sanguineti has been a passionate Canberra filmmaker since the first Lights Canberra Action back in 2003. Since then he has produced a number of feature length films and hundreds of short films, including several more for LCA. Despite becoming a mentor for many filmmakers, he finds himself back behind the camera due to his intense passion for storytelling and filmmaking.
Mikey Watson has been a regular on many Canberra film projects for over 12 years, including producing a number of feature films and short films. His 2022 LCA entry, ‘A Creature Like Me’ is Mikey’s directorial debut.

Filmmaker Bio: While the writer's block, logistical nightmares, late nights and early mornings can be tough, Max, Michael and Andrew just love making movies.

Filmmaker Bio: I am an amateur Student filmmaker based in Canberra hoping for a future career in film. I first got interested in film making at around age 12, making short videos on my iPad. In the past I have specialised in comedy and documentary but I wish to broaden my horizons with more projects like these.
