2020 Top Twelve Gala Screening and Awards

Filmmaker Bio: Ashley Parker is a university of Canberra alumni - graduating with a Bachelor of media arts and production in 2018 followed by an Arts and design honours specialising in cinematography in 2019. 

Ashley has previously worked as cinematographer on films that have been selected as finalists in the Canberra short film festival and her films have been presented at the UC Arts and Design exhibition as part of the Honours Exhibit.

Gossamer explores the mother-son relationship of Jordan and Susan and the rift time and nature tears between them.

Filmmaker Bio: James started using short animations and visual media as a hobby. He is interested in film as a way to realise his ideas and bring his stories to life. He plans on taking the skills he learned on Gossamer and expanding on them with creative works in the future.

Matthew is a young filmmaker who’s venturing into new territory with this family drama passion project. The idea came from an experience where he couldn’t contact his mother on New Years and the premise grew from there. He hopes to keep learning and continue exploring new ideas through film.

Filmmaker bio: Christopher Curran is a passionate filmmaker with a particular interest in visual effects. He is currently studying a Bachelor of Arts Screen Production at the University of Canberra. Chris has been acting in and directing films since he was 10 years old, and has worked with co-writer Trent Houssenloge on many projects in the last 5 years.

Filmmaker Bio: Debut creative team Erana Hanson, Donna Maree Hanson and her partner Matthew Farrer join together to bring you Implanted, a quirky comedy about a dedicated cat lover. Erana has an interest in film, art and music. Donna and Matthew are writers of science fiction and fantasy, who are discovering new ways of telling stories. Implanted is Erana’s first foray into short film production and Donna’s directing debut.

Filmmaker Bio: The Jack's have been working together for a few years now creating interesting pieces which have been inspired by creatives such as David Lynch, and Lars von Trier. Both still in film school at the university of Canberra they work to keep pushing the boundaries of traditional cinema and hope to evolve their styles and experience as filmmakers in the years to come.

Filmmaker Bio: Marko Matosevic has been a 3D artist for over five years. He has made several animation short films, and has created a number of them from Lights Canberra Action. He has a growing YouTube community under Markom3D.

Filmmaker Bio: Max is a Canberra based filmmaker and cinema enthusiast, who recently completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts majoring in Video and Animation at the ANU. He currently helps produce online and on screen content for Limelight Cinemas and this is his fourth year entering Lights Canberra Action.

Filmmaker Bio: Kaitlyn Boyé and Janelle McMenamin are a mother/daughter creative duo who first entered LCA with their quirky family film “Buddy” and followed it up with “AJ” a story about an imaginary friend. Their love for film began on the other side of the lens as actresses and has since evolved into a passion for all aspects of filmmaking.

Filmmaker Bio: Merryn is a creative originally from Canberra but currently replanted in Melbourne. This is the first film she has written, directed and produced. It was a real growing experience and pleasure to work with so many talented creative people, and bring a sprout of an idea into a flower.

Filmmaker Bio: My name is Callum Lawrence. I'm a full-time videographer at Good Shout - but in my free time I enjoy making weird films. I began making movies with Lego and a camcorder and haven't looked back since! I studied a Bachelor of Media Arts and Production before starting at Good Shout, and later in the year I'm heading to the Paralympics in Tokyo for work.

Filmmaker Bio: Samuel is a year 12 student studying media. He first developed an interest in filmmaking when he was 10 years old, making movies for primary school presentations. In 2018 he won the Victorian Croquet Association promotional video competition. More recently he has made videos for his school and filmed various events such as drama productions.
