18 years! That's how long we've been running. We've hit adulthood. We're not kids anymore, it's time to grow up. But in a pandemic world, what does that mean? Well, we have ideas, inspiration, drive, ambition....we have hope.
So, this year's theme is:

A Trickster is out to steal everyone's hope, but faces a challenge when a young Artist refuses to give up.

Filmmaker Bio: Anthea Staats and Lyndsey Turnbull are film production students in their final year at the University of Canberra. Over the last few years they have explored varying roles on several short films, including 'D-Grade Delivery' (Best Film, Blue Shift Film Festival 2019) and 'Lost and Found' (Best Director and Best Editor, UC Film Awards 2020). In the future, Lyndsey and Anthea plan to make more films, to keep telling stories, learning and meeting new people.

An enraged werewolf mother must defeat an amateur werewolf slayer to rescue her abducted child. Hope to reunite with child.

Filmmaker Bio: Scott Cadzow 3D animator based in Canberra, Australia and is originally from Adelaide. He is passionate about animation, storytelling and film production. Scott is constantly working on many personal projects. He also accepts commercial work.

We need a break. The constant busyness of the city can make you desire the tranquility of the woods. But still, the city calls.

Filmmaker bio: Samuel is a passionate filmmaker, photographer, and nature lover. His love for filmmaking started at about 10 years old making movies for primary school assignments and his passion has dramatically grown since then. The theme of nature and silence in a busy world very apparent in this year's entry and is also a subject very close to Samuel. 


IN THE SHADOWS     Animation, 6 mins,  PG (animated violence, mild menace, mild depression)

Tilly seeks help to find her lost hope. The Agency for In the Shadows provide her the assistance she needs.

Filmmaker Bio: Geraldine Martin came to writing and animation later in life. She is a qualified librarian and milliner. She has a Masters Degree in Creative Writing and has undertaken study in animation through various educational institutions including the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Clare Langsford has experience in writing and producing both long and short form film content. She is an experienced actor on stage and screen.

Filmmaker Bio: Trent Houssenloge works as a professional wedding and commercial videographer in addition to producing short film projects in his free time. He possesses a keen interest in telling wild and wacky stories. This is his first time directing a Lights, Canberra, Action film of which the script was only written one week before the deadline.

Filmmaker Bio: Max, Michael and Ewout are keen film makers. This is Max and Michael's 4th year entering LCA and the first time the trio have collaborated since LCA 2019.

At the end of their mother's funeral, four siblings bicker as Glen hopes to end his shift at the funeral home.

Filmmaker Bio: Laura and Andrew are promising directors joining together for the first time for their Lights! Canberra! Action! debuts. Laura is an alumni from University of Canberra and has previously worked at WildBear Entertainment. Andrew has a background in theatre. A newcomer to the film scene, he is looking to pursue further acting and directing. James is a Lights! Canberra!Action! regular, having submitted films since 2016. He currently studies a Master of Producing at University of Melbourne.

Tom and Jesse drive across town looking for the boys who stole Tom's car.

Filmmaker Bio: Chris is a passionate filmmaker with a particular interest in visual effects, having also acted in and directed films since the age of 10. He is currently studying a Bachelor of Arts (Film Production) at the University of Canberra.

Filmmaker Bio: Alex Jackson has been making films since he could hold a camera and mix up footage with music! He has a passion for both directing and editing, and has worked with some extremely talented people to achieve this. When he's not busily adding an entirely unnecessary amount of special effects to a film, he enjoys photography, D&D, video games, and any mix of these therein. Anything that involves a good story (especially about dragons).

Filmmaker Bio:  Luke is a final year film student at the University of Canberra studying a Bachelor of Media Arts and Production. He is currently in pursuit of a freelancing career in video production with a focus on visual storytelling through cinematography and directing. He believes that film is a powerful platform to inspire and create change in the 21st century and hopes to continue to tell stories through his work.

Filmmaker Bio: Tina Costessi and Adrian Muscat have been making films together since 2013. The pair first entered LCA back in 2016 with their short drama film, Sunday. After not submitting a film in 2020, Tina and Adrian's passion for filmmaking spurred them on to enter again this year with their first animated short.

Filmmaker Bio: Ethan Hart, 16 years old, born in Canberra, has been studying film making and creating films at school since 2019. Ethan was a finalist in the Young Achievers Awards 2020 for the category of performing arts and is an elite dancer. Ethan has been studying acting at the National Acting School since 2017. Ethan was talent scouted and performed in the Arts showcase in Los Angeles for acting, modelling and dancing in 2017.
